We, the founders, Boards of Directors and Advisors, and Staff of the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus condemn racism and the underlying structure of white supremacy embodied in our current political, economic, and judicial systems.

Our focus is always supporting our community of artists through Monday night performances, connecting with youth and family service through Cirkus After School in response to COVID-19, and listening to Black leadership in our community for what’s next.

We understand that Black Lives Matter and will continue to stand alongside our Black community in support.

Additional actions we take and will continue to take are to make space for, encourage, and support artists, educators, and emerging leaders in our sector through bookings via professional mentorship and leadership training opportunities. We will continue to seek diversity, equity and inclusion in our Board, Artists, and Staff.
Through Cirkus After School, we partner with youth and community development organizations with the shared goals of social and economic justice and empowerment for Black, Queer, Non-binary, Indigenous folk, and People of Color.
Our immediate action in light of COVID-19 has been to provide support for youth and families who are disproportionately affected by loss of income, displacement due to gentrification, and lack of access to childcare as jobs re-open.
In Columbia County, we will work with local Black and Social Justice leadership to address our local police policies on Implicit Bias training; seeking reassignment of funding away from tactical gear and into human development training for officers.
White Family, we are willing to lead and do the work of change; please join us. Black Family, we are listening. And when you want us, we are ready to stand shoulder to shoulder with you.

Dear Friends,

The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus joins thousands of other arts organizations, sports teams, educational institutions, businesses, and agencies in the effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Effective immediately, all live events are postponed indefinitely. We will honor advance ticket purchases when the events are rescheduled, or please contact your your original ticketing purchase platform for other options.

If you would like to donate to Bindlestiff, we are sincerely grateful. Please visit bindlestiff.org/support/

All Bindlestiff’s Cirkus After School programs will be moving to a privately accessible YouTube channel so that children and families in our NYC and Columbia County sites can have twice-weekly doses of DIY Cirkus fun to try at home.

Trust that we will be continuing to do what we love, so that when we all get together again we’ll be able to bring the joy and wonder back at full blast.

Love from our family to yours,

The Bindlestiffs
